Description
Class Code 66 The proposed contract action is for a laser ablation system for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures of FAR Part 13. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency requires a laser ablation system to expand their forensic chemistry capabilities to include isotope ratio measurements of individual particles, and to complement their Scanning Electron Microscopy capabilities. Many of the Superfund cases that the EPA becomes involved in require characterization of particles that result from air deposition associated with environmental contaminations. These particles are typically less than 10 micrometers in diameter and commonly as small as one micrometer in size. The required laser ablation system from New Wave Research will allow for ablation of particles as small as 5 microns with a certifiable flat top laser beam. The point of contact for this action is Mr. Glenwood D. Sites at (202) 564-4798, or via e-mail at sites.glenwood@epa.gov.
