Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to issue solicitation SB1341-01-R-0040 for the purpose of conducting research on autonomous mobile robots with applications in manufacturing, transportation and defense. Areas of interest are how to control these vehicles in a way that is natural to human users, especially in environments where the usual keyboard or joystick based interfaces are not available. This research will enable vehicles to be integrated more easily into mixed teams of human and robotic vehicles. Research and development supported by this initiative will lead to computer vision-based methods of recognizing people, understanding their facial expressions, and tracking and interpreting their gestures. Work will be conducted in the context of controlling mobile vehicles. The Period of Performance for this effort will be a base year from date of award and one (1) year option period. Solicitation SB1341-01-R-0040 is anticipated to be released to the public on or about 25 June 2001 and will be available via the Internet at www.fedbizops.gov . All amendments and questions pertaining to this solicitation will be available at the aforementioned web-site. Potential offerors shall be responsible for accessing the web-site. All interested parties must respond to the solicitation in order to be considered for award of the resultant contract. There will be no written documentation.
