Description

Sources Sought. Bechtel Nevada is seeking sources that can provide an Ultrafast closure valve system. HE Ultrafast Closure Valve System (UCVS) is an ultrafast HE closure and a fast-acting gate valve. The UCVS shall be a late-time closing (approximately 1 second after impact), and extremely reliable, fast-acting gate valve that ensures the primary target chamber (PTC) is sealed. The HE closures shall be able to close a 1.5 inch diameter aluminum conduit (approximately 0.25 inch wall thichness) in less than 80 microseconds. Successful containment of the special nuclear material (SNM), target material, requires that, as a minimum, the ultrafast HE closures restrict the movement of the SNM a sufficient length of time (i.e., provide an acceptable leak rate) to allow the fast-acting gate valve to close before SNM escaped the PTC. The fast-acting gate valve shall provide a long-term seal that is leak-tight to 1X10-6torr with a maximum allowable leak rate of 1X10-8atm.cc/s.
