Description
Purpose: The Agency of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), through the Program Support Center, General Acquisition Branch, plans to award a 7 month sole source simplified to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP). The anticipated date of award is June 25, 2001. The purpose of this contract is to produce technical assistance materials which can be used by all 50 States to further develop and evaluate the model for recruiting more ethnic minority medical students into child and adolescent psychiatry careers. Hopefully, evaluation of this model will confirm that it can be easily replicated in medical schools and medical centers throughout the 50 States, and that is uses actual medical student participation to engage in and evaluate an intensive short term clinical training program. This program is designed to 1) heighten awareness of the opportunities in child and adolescent psychiatry, 2) increase hands-on experience, 3) increase awareness of child and adolescent psychiatry as a discipline, and 4) provide role models, mentors, and contacts for medical students of under represented minorities. If the model is successful, the final report will be instrumental in structuring CMHS acquisitions-grants or contracts-to help extend the program into future practical applications. The proposed simplified acquisition is for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of far 6.302. Interested persons may identify their interest by responding to the requirement within 10 days after the date of publication of this notice. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed simplified acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. No solicitation is available. For further information, please contact Nora Tyson in Rm. 5C-03, Parklawn Building, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, Md. 20857 or on 301-443-8826.
