Description

The work of this project involves performing subsurface investigations at Ball Mountain Dam in Jamaica, Vermont. Six borings shall be completed, three along the centerline of the dam embankment and three along the centerline of the upstream access road on the dam embankment. The borings range in depth from 114 to 152 feet. Borings shall be advanced using steel drive casing and roller bit and wash methods. Sampling in each of the six borings shall be continuous from the ground surface, and shall be performed in accordance with SPT procedures of ASTM D 1586, except that a 300-pound hammer, and 18-inch drop, and a 2.5-inch inside diameter split sampling spoon shall be used. The Contractor shall have equipment and materials available to perform rock coring in the event that obstructions are encountered. The Contractor shall provide the services of a geologist or geotechnical engineer to perform inspection tasks and to produce detailed boring logs, shall provide all sample containers for proper collection of samples, and shall be responsible for coordination and shipment of samples to Concord, Massachusetts.
