- Description
- The work of this project involves performing subsurface investigations in the form of eight 50-foot deep borings in a section of the navigation channel in Norwalk Harbor, Norwalk, Connecticut. Norwalk Harbor is located at the mouth of the Norwalk River on the north shore of Long Island Sound, about eight miles east of Stamford and 13 miles west of Bridgeport. The borings are to be drilled in a 12-foot deep section of the channel, downstream of the Interstate Route 95 Bridge. The work requires the use of floating plant and related equipment, which shall be supplied by the Contractor. The area of the borings is subject to a mean tide range of 7.1 feet. Sampling in each of the eight borings shall be continuous from the channel bottom to a depth of 50 feet, and shall be performed in accordance with the SPT procedures of ASTM D 1586, except that a 300-pound hammer, an 18-inch drop, and 2.5 inch inside diameter split sampling spoon shall be used. The Contractor shall have equipment and materials available to perform rock coring, in the event that obstructions or bedrock are encountered. The Contractor shall provide the services of a geologist or geotechnical engineer to perform inspection services and to produce detailed boring logs, shall provide all sample containers for proper collection of samples, and shall be responsible for coordination and shipment of samples to a soil testing laboratory. A "Notice to Mariners" and "Public Notice" are required prior to the start of on-site work. Estimated cost of the project is between $25,000 and $100,000. Specifications will be available at no cost on or about 07/03/01. Requests for Solicitations may be faxed to (978) 318-8207. All responsible sources may submit a quote which will be considered by the New England District.
