- Description
- HQ DLA J-3 Logistics Operations, located at Fort Belvoir, Virginia is conducting market research, proof-of-concepts, operational, demonstrations and testing prototypes to identify commercial entities capable of providing Automatic Identification Technology (AIT) supporting DLA J-3's Advanced Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Rapid Identification, Sorting and Tracking (AHRIST) Project. The AIT technologies of interest specifically include Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) intelligent tags embedded in either standard military or commercial labels, in packaging labels, and where appropriate on individual items. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes only, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. No contract will be awarded from this specific announcement. Reimbursement will not be made for any costs (except for RFID intelligent tags which are treated as consumables for this announcement) associated with providing information in response to this announcement, any follow-up information requests, or for participation in the formal testing. It is expected that the vendor will supply all hardware and software for the entire RFID system to include at a minimum the RFID Portal, RFID interrogator, RFID encoder printer and technical support during the testing period. Vendors will be allowed to optimize their portal and prototype configurations on-site for one week prior to the government's formal testing. The government reserves the right to select all, some, or none of the submitted proposed systems for testing. No contract will be issued as result of this sources-sought announcement. As a part of this market research, interested respondents should submit expression of interest to this office by the close of business on June 18, 2001, attend a Vendors' Information Meeting (VIM) on June 19, 2001 at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Richmond, Virginia, building 33, Bay H, room 33-A from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and provide detailed technical solutions in response to this Request for Information by July 18, 2001. Interested parties are requested to submit their intent to attend the VIM by June 15, 2001. Any known questions may be presented to the government prior to the VIM. All questions that arise in advance of or during the VIM will be disseminated to all attendees in writing. Final reports and debriefings of findings will occur after analyses of the data collected during the Operational Tests are complete. Follow-on anticipated support services are scheduled to begin during FY02.
