- Description
- The University of California, which operates Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy, solicits Letters of Interest from companies interested in the development and demonstration of detecting metallic contaminates in high explosive components. The goal of this technology is to produce a turn key metal detector system that could rapidly detect a 2mm dia metal object in a 25 lb. charge of high explosives with a density of 1.83 g/cc. The shape of the charge would be a bowl 12 inch outer diameter with an 9 inch inner diameter. All control boxes and electrical connections will need to conform to explosion proof NEMA 4 ratings. The technology if successfully demonstrated it may be procured by LANL or other DOE sites as production equipment Any company interested in the Opportunity must respond with a Letter of Interest that provides a description of the company's (1) business; (2) currently available technology that may meet the requirements; (3) technical staff and resources; (4) motivation or interest in pursuing this opportunity. Respondents are encouraged to provide ancillary documentation such as product information, annual reports, corporate resumes, and website addresses. The Letter of Interest must provide this information or the respondent will not be considered as a qualified respondent. The Letter of Interest must be received on or before July 1, 2001. A decision whether to enter into technology development or procurement negotiations will be based on the University's evaluation of the supplied information. Please send Letters of Interest to the attention of Donna M. Smith, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Industrial Business Development Program Office, Mail Stop C334, Los Alamos, New Mexico, 87545. For further information contact Dr. Smith by phone [505-667-9473], fax [505-665-6127], or email [smith_d@lanl.gov].
