- Description
- This is not a request for proposals but a Request for Information to locate potential sources for COTS software for an archive product for OS/390 DB2 by the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Chief Information Officer, National Informational Technology Center (NITC). The requrements for the archieve product are as follows: (1) ARchiving referential-integrity (RI) sets of data from mulitple, related DB2 tabales. (2)Update DB2 catalog automatically for RI. (3)Provide built-in support for application-defined RI to eliminate requirements to custom-write SQL during archiving. (4) Ability to read the DB2 catalog automaticlly to deduce RI constraints present in the database. (5) Provide online and batch modes of operations. (6) User ability to browse archived data directly prior to restoration to production. (7) Provide a "global search" capability that efficiently finds archived dta potentially resident in one or more different archive files created at different times. (8) Support the archiving of information by aging data fields that aren't DB2 data or time fields without need to write SQL. (9) Permit the DBA staff to change the archiving criteria and/or the data model to be archived by adjusting parameters rather than building modules. (10) Support a single-step selective restore operation that restores all related data from multiple tables. This operation should not require writing any SQL or any custom programs; it must be a built-in function of the archiving solution itself. (11) When restoring data, the archiving solution must support the case where the production data model has changed during the time since the archive files were originally created. This should be accomplished through a mapping function that allowsarchived data to be restored to a different data model than the original. (12) Support the import of archive files to location other than the originating one (i.e., hot back-ups, and multiple locations accessing the same data locally). (13) Support the writing of the archive directly to tape, without first going to a disk file. (14) Relate operational store process to physical tape serial numbers for future access. (15) Provide current / future capability for Online process operations using a Graphic User Interface, GUI. (16) Permit selective selection of data for extract based upon user parameters. (17) Provide archive/extract processess utilizing DBMS table records related via relational integrity. (18) Operate in an OS/390 environment. Only firms that currently have software product(s) possessing the above characteristics are invited to respond to this RFI. RESPONSES SHOULD INCLUDE: (1) Technical documentation limited to twenty (20) pages, which addresses each of the above characteristics and any other important technical aspects of the product. (2) Commercial proce list or GSA schedule for license and maintenance fees software. (3) Points of contact (including name, email address, phone number, and fax number) from three customers currently using the identified product. This is an RFI and not a request for comment or request for proposals. Nothing shall be construed herein or through the RFI process to commit orobligate the Government to further action as a result of this RFI. Firms responding to this RFI shall bear all risk and expense of any resources used to provide the requested information, and all information submitted in response to this request shall become the property of the Government and will not be returned to the submitter.
