- Description
- The National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS/BPH) in the Library of Congress has a requirement for programming support in order to develop, modify and extend the operation of its Digital Accessible Book Builder (DABB) and Digital Talking Book Simulator (DTBS) systems. Both of these systems presently have prototype modules in the debug stage. DABB modules are written in C++. They accept digital audio and XML text input and produce a file set compliant with the draft NISO Digital Talking Book (DTB) standard which is posted at http://www.niso.org/z3986.html. DTBS modules are written in JavaScript. They accept DABB output and present it via web browser, speech synthesizer, and a media player in compliance with the feature sets posted at http://www.loc.gov/nls/niso. The immediate objective of both systems is to test compliance with the standard and to build a suitable user interface. NLS requires support to extend both module sets to implement all features mentioned in the NISO standard and to integrate modules into seamless and efficient operational packages. The solicitation will be available on or about June 20, 2001 at www.loc.gov/contracts.
