Description
United Defense L.P. as the prime contractor, is in the process of developing the US Army's next generation of field artillery and re-supply heavy tracked vehicles, Crusader. The Crusader system consists of the self-propelled howitzer (SPH) and the re-supply vehicle ( RSV), each incorporating multiple Joysticks for various crewmember operations. United Defense is currently researching suppliers for the Crusader Joysticks. The Joystick will be used in three locations/positions in the SPH and two locations/positions in the RSV. The Joysticks will be configured for use as driving controls, gunner controls, secondary armament controls, or docking controls. These configurations will be performed outside of the Joystick, allowing each Joystick to be immune to its actual configuration; being only concerned will outputting Joystick information at various rates over a standard CAN2B interface. The Joystick shall operate from vehicle 28 volts dc electrical power during normal operation. During normal operation all input and output data will be via a CAN2B serial bus interface. During normal operation redundant analog and specific switch interface outputs shall also be present. During degraded operation the Joystick shall be operated from a 15 volts dc electrical input at a maximum of 2 watts power consumption. In degraded operation there shall be no output via a serial CAN2B bus interface. In degraded operation the Joystick shall only provide the isolated analog and specific switch outputs.
