Description
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Huntington WV is conducting a market research to determine the availability of firms that can provide a one-day training session on diversity in the workplace to managers and supervisors. The projected date of the training is July 2001. The exact date and time will be determined. Interested and capable firms with a proven track record in diversity training are to provide detailed information on their competencies, experience, qualifications, availability during the month of July 2001, and past performance and training history as it relates to training managers and supervisors on workplace diversity. It is also imperative that all interested sources provide a detailed description of the specific training topics and activities that will be conducted during the one-day training session. The district is interested in a firm that has the ability to provide training to managers and supervisors in the following areas of diversity: 1. How to give feedback that respects the differences of others; 2. How to include everyone on the team; 3. How to genuinely respect the differences of others; 4. How to ensure that diverse backgrounds (gender, age, race, or ethnic background) are assimilated with the majority population of the workforce; 5. How to help managers and supervisors acknowledge both cultural and job-related differences and work toward common ground; 6. How to manage a wide spectrum of gender, race, ethnicity, language, religion, age, and physical disability in the workplace; 7. How to positively influence attitudes about diversity; 8. How to effectively manage as well as value differences in opinions and personalities; 9. How to effectively manage diversity so that discrimination is decreased and productivity is increased; 10. How managers and supervisors must value the difference in employees so that the "strengths" in the organization are used to grow and succeed; 11. Helping managers understand that diversity is not a trend but a reality; 12. Helping managers and supervisors gain insight into subtle biases, beliefs and stereotypes that might affect their objectivity; 13. Helping managers understand how diversity is linked to other business issues; 14. Helping managers and supervisors emphasize character and ability rather than race, ethnicity, sex, or other reasons; 15. Helping managers and supervisors understand why they should know the meaning of diversity as well as care about workplace diversity; 16. Helping managers and supervisors to modify their own behaviors to improve the quality of their working relationships in a diverse workplace; 17. Enabling managers and supervisors to help their employees work comfortably in a diverse environment. All firms are to indicate which of the aforementioned seventeen areas of diversity that their training will cover. All capability statements and information concerning your firm's capabilities and interest are to be provided via fax to Bob Suiter at (304) 529-5738 or by mailing to: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Attn: Contracting Division (Bob Suiter), 502 Eighth Street Street, Huntington, WV 25701.
