Description
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and PMA-263 will demonstrate a Plug and Play (PnP) concept in conjunction with the PEO (W) and AUVSI Unmanned Aerial Vehicle flight demonstrations at Webster Field, MD on 30 July 2001. The focus of PnP demonstration is to examine a viable method of interfacing various Payloads/Sensors into Air Vehicle platforms with little or no impact on flight certification or safety. This demonstration is but one PnP concept, NAVAIR/PMA-263 is looking to foster further exchange of information, with the UAV and Sensor community, on the feasibility of the concept or other methods. The demonstration will be held in concert with the static displays between the hours of 1000 and 1600, 30 July 2001. In addition, PMA-263 will brief the UAV Modular Mission Payload (MMP) Plug and Play Open Architecture Concept at the AUVSI Conference in Baltimore, MD on 31 July 2001, 0900-1200 hours for the purpose of soliciting comments from Industry. The Briefing will be given at the Baltimore Convention Center. The room number will be posted inside the Pratt Street entrance on the day of the briefing. In addition to reducing or eliminating the need for flight re-certification, the MMP PnP Open Architecture effort also seeks to reduce non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs and timelines so that new UAV payloads and mission capabilities can be introduced to the Fleet much more quickly than is currently achievable. Interested parties are invited to view the PnP brief and AUVSI information on the PMA-263 web site at http://uav.navair.navy.mil. The point of contact for the PnP Demonstration is John Parente, CPT, USA at (301) 757-5816, E-mail parantej@navair.navy.mil, and the POC for the PnP Concept Brief is Mr. Nils Anderson, 301-757-5869, E-mail andersonna@navair.navy.mil .
