- Description
- Naval Air Warfare Center (Aircraft Division) Patuxent River, MD, Code 4.6.3.3, is seeking information from potential sources for a commercially available Individual Survival Kit, which will assist an injured or downed aircrewman in an emergency situation. Current Individual Survival Kits are too large and bulky for use in the latest state-of-art survival vests and seat survival kits. The Individual Survival Kit shall consist of two packages that are small, compact and the items contained within shall be able to sustain life for a minimum of 24 hours. The U.S.Navy wishes to acquire information and samples on an Individual Survival Kit with the following specifications: (1) It is preferred that the kit be vacuum-packed to provide for a longer inspection cycle, prevent damage, pilfering and less bulk. (2) The survival kit shall consist of two separate kits with a protective outer casing. (3) Items contained in the kits shall be individually sealed for protection and be re-sealable. (4) Survival kit must be easy to open for an injured aircrewman. (5) Overall finished size of each kit shall not exceed 5 x 6 x 1 1/2 inches. (6) Kit shall contain an instruction card on first aid procedures and uses for each of the items. (7) The following is a list of minimum items that are required for the Individual Survival Kit: (a) Water Purification tablets (Enough tablets to make a minimum of 5 qts water). This is dated material and must be left outside vacuum-packed items for easy removal and replacement; (b) 1 Soap cake (3/4 oz) non-perfumed; (c) 3 Sunsect (combined sunscreen/insect repellant .0.3 fl oz ea); (d) 1 quart water bag (re-closable); (e) 1 Firestarter and tinder; (f) 1 Saw, flexible; (g) 1 two-tone Camouflage paint with or without sunscreen; (h) 1 Fishing kit; (i) 2 Compress bandages (4x4 inch); (j) 1 Chap stick (tube); (k) 1 Moleskin pad (4 x 4 inch); (l) 5 Bandaids (3/4 x 3 inch); (m) 1 Bandage, Gauze elastic (2 inch x 5 yds); (n) 1 surgical tape (1/2inch x 10 yds); (o) 1 Tourniquet; (p) 10 Skin, closure, adhesives (1/4 x 3 inch) Companies responding to this request should provide detailed information on their product to Contracts Code 251327, Attn: Ms. Kelly Mabe Bldg. 441, NAVAIRSYSCOMHQ, 21983 Bundy Road Unit 7, Patuxent River, MD 20670-1127 at (301) 757-8941 or by e-mail MabeKD@navair.navy.mil.
