- THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE. This is not a request for proposals. This synopsis is for information, planning and evaluation purposes only, and is not to be construed as a commitment by the government. The U.S. Army TACOM-ARDEC, Picatinny Arsenal, NJ,is interested in reviewing and evaluating new technologies and/or commercially available dual blasting cap/shock tube assemblies which are activated by means of a factory assembled in-line primer. The primers,which are built into the shock tube lead, should be capable of being reliably initiated with Mk55 Handheld Firing Devices or the firing pin of the M81 Igniter. It should be waterproof to 95 PSI for 4 hours exposure & have tensile/pull strength on the shock tube line of at least 25 pounds without causing the unit to fail. Specifically, the dual blasting cap assemblies with in-line primers shall consist of M42C1 primers built into the end of two 50 foot pyrotechnic leads (known as shock tube), outside diameter not to exceed 0.095 inch,(desirable 0.080inch),with a non-electric factory installed non delay blasting cap(outside diameter of 0.230 inch to 0.241 inch,length of 2.25 inch to 2.35 inch)attached at the other ends with outputs equivalent to a number 12 commercial blasting caps. The blasting caps shall be capable of initiating composition C-4. The interface fittings shall be 7/16"-20 nuts for mating with MK55 and/or 5/8"-20UN-2B end caps for the M81 Igniter. Enough splicing material shall be supplied with the spool to make at least five splices to repair the shock tube or to be used as an interface with standard military time fuse igniters(outside diameter of splice material 0.200 inch + or -- 0.010 inch. The Handheld Firing Device consists of an aluminum cylinder approximately 5.25 inches long and 0.50 inch in diameter. The firing end of the firing devices are internally threaded to receive the applicable initiator. Interested firms are invited to submit, in writing, information on the items by COB NLT 25 May 2001. Interested parties are encouraged to submit descriptive literature, catalogs, descriptions/drawings of the items offered, catalog prices for different quantities (i.e. 100 each, 200 each, 300 each and so on up to 1000 each units), lead time to deliver the item after government award of purchased order, etc. All information is to be furnished at no cost or obligation to the Government.
