Description
The work to be completed under this contract is a combination of construction & reconstruction, waterbar installation, turnpike construction& logging out on a section of trail in the Swet Creek drainage on the West Fork Ranger District, Bitteroot National Forest. The new construction is 1487 ft. in length, with 3 switchbacks, 74 sq. ft. of Rock Retaining Wall, 108 ft. of Tread Restoration & associated obliteration/rehabilitation of 621 ft. of existing trail. It involves Clearing & Grubbing, Excavation & Embankment, Shallow Gully Crossing Rock Structure, Grade Dip, Switchback, Trail Restoration, Native Log & Rock Waterbar, Rock Retaining Wall, Mobilization & Obliteration. The rest of the work is: Logging Out 9 miles, constructing 150 ft. of turnpike & installing Waterbars on Swet Creek Trail #25 & Shoup/Elk City Trail #19. When drilling is needed, only hand drilling will be allowed. The contract requires blasting. This project begins approximately 71 road miles from the town of Darby, Montana. To reach the beginning of the project, proceed south from Darby on U.S Highway 93 to the junction with Montana State Highway #473, West Fork Road. Turn right & proceed 18 miles to the West Fork Ranger Station. Continue 1/2 mile to Forest Road #468, proceed 53 miles over Nez Perce Pass & on to Salmon Mtn. Basecamp. This road is typically blocked by snow on Salmon Mtn. until mid-July. The project begins at the top of Trail # 25 which is approximately 13 miles south on the Shoup/Elk City Trail #19 from the trailhead. The project can also be accessed by going south up the Selway River Trail # 4 from the historical Magruder R.S. No site visit is planned for this project.
