Description

The work to be completed under this contract is the reconstruction of a fire damaged section of trail along Sleeping Child Creek on the Darby Ranger District of the Bitterroot National Forest. The work includes approximately 7.2 kilometers of Sleeping Child Creek Trail #105. The largest portion of the project is Existing Trail Restoration (1,329 meters total) & associated Rock Retaining Wall ( 81.5 square meters total). The rest of the work involves constructing; five short sections of new location (151 meters total), one Shallow Stream Ford & Gully Crossing Structure, 24 Rock Waterbars & installing four Wire Baskets. Logging Out, Brush Cutting, Loose Rock Removal, Danger Tree Removal & Drainage Maintenance are also included. Construction includes; clearing & grubbing, excavation & embankment. The contract does require blasting. This project begins approximately 15 road miles from the town of Hamilton, Montana. To reach the beginning of the project, proceed south from Hamilton on U.S Highway 93 to junction with MT Hwy 38 (Skalkaho Highway). Turn left & proceed .5 miles to Sleeping Child Creek Road #85D. Turn right & proceed 12 miles to the trailhead located north of the bridge over Sleeping Child Creek on Forest Road #372. A site visit is planned for this project on 15 June 01 at 9 am. Time of contract is 365 days with no shutdown for normal winter season. For purpose of this project, the winter season is 1 November through 15 April of each year.
