Description
NOTICE TYPE: Solicitation NOTICE DATED: 05/09/2001 OFFICE ADDRESS: Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), P. O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. ZIPCODE: 83415-3521 SUBJECT: Law Enforcement -- Air Bag Restraints For Use in Patrol Vehicles. SOLICITATION NO.: SOL RESPONSE DEADLINE: DUE CONTACT: POC Julius Lassiter NOTICE TEXT: Law Enforcement -- Air Bag Restraints For Use in Patrol Vehicles. U. S. Patent Number 5,458,367. This is a potential technology development and licensing opportunity with Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), the prime operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). BBWI has produced a prototype design for an air bag restraint system for the rear seat of patrol vehicles for use when occupants become violent and dangerous. To address the concern of suffocation, a semi-permeable air bag was suggested. Bench scale test were performed to demonstrate the validity of that suggestion. The object of this system is to use an air bag to prevent an individual or individuals, from continuing violent actions while being transported in a patrol vehicle without requiring immediate physical contact by the law enforcement officer. The air bag independently restricts the amount of physical activity occurring in the rear seat of the vehicle while allowing the officer to safely stop the vehicle. The air bag can also provide the officer additional time to get backup personnel to aid him/her if the situation warrants it. BBWI is soliciting an interest in funding a collaborative technology development project and or entering into a license agreement for the purpose of developing and commercializing this technology. License terms will include an up-front licensing fee and a running royalty based on a percentage of sales. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to BBWI or the Department of Energy. Request for Interest (RFI) will close to response 30 days after publication. Interested parties should send e-mail to lassjp@inel.gov (Julius Lassiter, Senior Account Executive, Technology Transfer & Commercialization, BBWI). If you do not have e-mail access, send regular mail to Julius Lassiter, Senior Account Executive, Technology Transfer & Commercialization, BBWI, P. O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805.
