Description
The National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) requires services of a contractor to continue the establishment and operation of the Caenorhabditis Genetics Center (CGC) to acquire and distribute wild-type and mutant strains of C. elegans and related nematode species, to characterize these strains, and to stimulate biological/biomedical research using C. elegans as a model system. The CGC is expected to provide a genetic resource to investigators using C. elegans as a model in biological research. The CGC also receives reprints of publications and data (raw and analyzed), stores these materials, verifies genetic status and/or scientific accuracy and distributes mutant strains, bibliographic and genetic information to individual scientists and the scientific public at large. The CGC is currently operated under contract by the University of Minnesota, St. Paul, Dr. Robert Herman, P.I., since 1992. However, this is a full and open competitive acquisition. The period of performance is five years. One award is anticipated to be made about May 31, 2002. The RFP will be issued on or about May 18, 2001, with proposals due August 7, 2001. The RFP will be available electronically on the NHLBI Web Page at: "http://ocm.od.nih.gov/contracts/rfps/mainpage.htm. There are no paper copies. Interested organizations should review and download the streamlined RFP designated as RFP # NHLBI-RR-02-02 which will appear under the list of RFPs for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Further instructions and forms for proposal submission are located at the menu selection entitled "Streamlined RFP References" which is located in the same web page.
