- VA Mather Medical Center, Sacramento, California is seeking sources to provide long term Orthopedic Surgical services to veterans in Sacramento, CA. An affiliate currently provides 1 FTE support through a sole source scarce medical agreement under U.S.C. 38 Sec. 8153, which expires 30 September 2001. VA Mather Medical Center has no orthopedic surgeons currently on staff. RFQ 261-0187-01 will be issued in May 2001: ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON(S), INPATIENT/OUTPATIENT SERVICES; Clinics, Surgical Cases, & Call Support. The Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 21 is soliciting sources for 1.5 to 2 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Orthopedic Surgeons to provide inpatient/outpatient services. The Department of Veterans Affairs, Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS), Sacramento Medical Center at Mather, 10535 Hospital Way, Mather, California consists of a 30 bed Medical/Surgical Unit, a 7 bed Intensive Care/Critical Care Unit, 5 bed Same Day Surgery Unit, and a 23-hour, 5 bed Medical-Surgical Observation Unit. Orthopedic surgeon(s) duties consist of performing orthopedic services (clinics and surgeries) at VANCHCS and will require a physical presence at the patients' bedside, in the clinics, and by telephone communication when appropriate. This growing facility anticipates a significant increase in the number of patients seen in clinics and those requiring surgeries. The contract orthopedic surgeon(s) will ensure consultative services are made available in a timely manner in order to coordinate patient treatment with medical and surgical subspecialty services, run outpatient clinics, provide professional direction to the technical staff on all orthopedic surgery procedures he or she may participate in, be present and scrubbed in the operating room (OR) for scheduled orthopedic procedures (some emergency surgical cases), perform surgeries, be responsible for a Brief Op Note immediately following the procedure, dictate/be responsible for the Op Report immediately following the procedure, and sign the Brief Op Note and Op Report, make rounds on post-operative orthopedic patients in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and on the wards. The contract physician shall oversee the provision of orthopedic services and develop operational plans and/or policies and shall ensure professional coverage for inpatients, including making interdisciplinary rounds within VANCHCS, and outpatient clinical services. All complications will be presented in Morbidity and Mortality conferences, and appropriate information will be provided to the Surgical Service at VANCHCS for inclusion in department reports. Credentialing: Credentialing is Typically a 30 to 45 day process and must be completed for the proposed physician before 1 Oct 2001.
