Description

NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request for Offer (RFO) for X-38 Laser Diode Arrays NASA/JSC intends to purchase the items from Industrial Microphotonics Company (IMC) in accordance with 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1). IMC is the only manufacturer found to make laser diodes that meet both power and physical size requirements of 600W and 20.8mm deep x 20.32mm long x 5.9mm high. In addition, these laser diodes have been qualified for use in the X-38 firing unit. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 5, 2001. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B". All qualified responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.
