- Description
- NASA/LaRC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for a Free Form Fabrication System (FFFS) capable of producing fully dense parts. The Free Form Fabrication System shall be used to conduct free form fabrication and materials research. It must meet the following specifics: The system shall be a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine which utilizes laser power and powder metal as a build medium and shall have five (5) full axes of motion. 2. The system shall be capable of processing metal powder such as, but not limited to, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, precipitating hardening steel, maraging steel, and titanium. 3. The system shall have a build envelope of at least 20.000 inches by 16.000 inches and at least 20.000 inches in Z-axis. 4. The system shall have at least a 1000-watt cw Nd: YAG laser. 5. The system shall have at least two (2) CNC controlled motorized powder feeders with composition gradient capabilities. 6. The system shall have a laser safe enclosure, which shall provide an optimum atmosphere for oxygen free operation. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in the CBD and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in Internet "Note A". This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to Susan E. McClain no later than April 30, 2001.
