- Description
- It is TACOM's objective to establish additional/multiple retread tire sources for Military Tactical and Tactical Support Wheeled vehicles. The vehicles/tires under consideration: HMMWV (bias tire), HMMWV (radial tire), M915 Tractor, M915A1 Tractor, M916-M92 Truck Series, M916A1 Tractor, M962A Trailer, M879 trailer, and M972 Trailer. Tire sizes range from 37x12.50-16.50LT to 11.00R24. On vehicle testing shall determine the performance of the retread candidate tires, when compared against the baseline/reference tires to the vehicle's mission profile requirements. On vehicle testing shall be conducted at Yuma Proving Grounds or NATC Test Center. Application documents: U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMSS119), latest revision; SAE J2014, lastest proposed 2001 proposed revision and the Cooperative Tire Qualification Program 441 (CTQP). The candidate tire manufacturer shall provide the following certification: Certify that the candidate tires meet U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMS2119) and applicable requirements from SAE J2014, table 1. Other general requirements: SAE J2014 latest 2001 proposed revision; Start of Work meeting; test methodology; pass/fail criteria; CTQP441; and have capability to examine tire casings for "anomalies" through x-ray, holography, ultrasound, or other non-destructive equipment. Test performance requirements will be selected from Table 1 of SAE J2014 and will not be limited to tread wear durability, mechanical realiability, etc. Criteria by which the candidate tires shall be judged as having passed or failed for these applications are contained in the TACOM (SAE J2014) Administrator's Manual.
