Description
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection (FSIS) intends to award a Sole Source contract to American Association of Lab Accreditation, 5301 Buckey_s Town Pike, Suite 350, Frederick, MD 21704. The contractor shall perform audits and assessments of the USDA FSIS Field Service Laboratories in Athens, GA, St. Louis, MO, Alameda, CA and the Microbiological Outbreaks and Special Projects Branch Laboratory in Athens, GA to assess that each FSIS laboratory (1) is competent to perform specific tests, and (2) maintains a quality system that addresses and conforms to all elements of ISO/IEC Guide 17025. The contractor shall accredit each FSIS laboratory following the completion of a satisfactory assessment. The American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) is the only known accrediting body in the United States that is authorized by the International Cooperation for Laboratory accreditation and the National Cooperation for Laboratory Accreditation to accredit laboratories for food chemistry and food microbiology analyses. All interested concerns must identify their interest in writing and fully document their capability to meet the Agency_s requirements by forwarding a detailed response by May 1, 2001. All responses must be in writing and may be faxed to 301-504-4276. All proposals from responsible sources will be considered by the Agency. If no affirmative written response is received by May 1, 2001, to determine that a comparable source is available, or is more advantageous to the Government, negotiations will take place with American Association of Lab Accreditation.
