Description

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing anticipates issuing a request for proposals (RFP) on or about April 16, 2001for a Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machining system consisting of: CNC Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment; CNC vertical machining center; computer aided design (CAD) hardware and software; computer aided machining (CAM) hardware and software; associated tooling and consumable supplies; operator training; installation; start up and system integration. Acceptance of the system shall be based on a Bureau acceptance test conducted at completion of installation and training. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will use the EDM system to produce precision die tooling for one of the printing steps in the currency production process. The tooling, to be effective, has dimensional precision requirements of less than 0.001 inches. All CNC machining centers and personal computers (PC_s) that support both the CAD and CAM packages shall be 100% compatible. A local area network shall link/integrate all CNC equipment and associated PCs to allow direct communication for transfer of code and data. Portability of the various software packages is required. The applicable North American Industrial Classification (NAIC) code for this equipment is 333298 with a size standard of 500 employees. This acquisition will be a 100% small businesses set aside.
