Description
This serves as Notice of Intention to issue a prospectus for operations of accommodations, facilities and services at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The National Park Service will be releasing a concession prospectus authorizing continued operations of overnight accommodations, food and beverage service, livery operations, kennels, and camper services for the visiting public within the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The Concessioner currently operates overnight accommodations at El Tovar Hotel, Kachina and Thunderbird Lodges, Bright Angel Historic Cabins and Rim Cabins, Maswik Lodge North and South, Yavapai Lodge East and West, and Phantom Ranch Cabins and Dorms. Food and beverage service is available at El Tovar Hotel, Arizona Steak House (Bright Angel), Bright Angel Dining, Maswik Cafeteria, Yavapai Cafeteria, Phantom Ranch, Desert View Trading Post and Hermits Rest. Merchandising is available at El Tovar Hotel, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Yavapai Lodge, Desert View Trading Post and Desert View Watchtower, Hermits Rest, Lookout Studio and Hopi House. The concessioner also offers guided mule rides and other services. The services are provided year-round. Major visitation occurs from March through October. The average visitation at Grand Canyon is close to 5 million visitors. The average annual gross receipts for this concession for the past three years is $70 million. Staffing includes approximately 300 seasonal employees and 900 permanent employees. There is limited employee housing available. There is an existing concessioner, AmFac Parks and Resorts, LLC, who has operated satisfactorily under its existing contract. The contract expires December 31, 2001. The prospectus will be issued April 5, 2001 for a 120 day response period with offers due on August 2, 2001. There is a charge of $35 per copy of the prospectus if you would like it mailed (Federal Express) or $30 with no mailing. Copies will be available by contacting Judy M.
