- Description
- The National Park Service, George Washington Memorial Parkway, is undertaking the conservation and long-term maintenance of three Memorials within its purview. The memorials include: the Seabees Memorial, the Spanish-American War Veterans Memorial and the Navy and Marine Memorial. The conservation proposals shal describe the recommended treatment and provide costs for all equipment, materials and personnel to accomplish the associated tasks. The proposed work shall address and include the following site-specific actions: A. The Seabees Memorial 1. Repair or replacement of the cracked granite panels on the screeen and pylons. 2. Resetting of dislodged or dislocated granite panels on the screen and pylons. 3. Removal of exisiting sealant and reopening of all masonry joints with a 20 year, or greater, exterior-rated sealant. 4. Conservation and protection of the base relief and medallions. B. Spanish-American War Veteran's Memorial 1. Conservation and protection of the medallion. C. Navy-Marine Memorial 1. Repair or replacement of the interior structural framework. 2. Repair or replacement of the tie down rods. 3. Reopening and/or resetting of the granite base (work to be in kind). The three monument are open to the public and are available for general inspection seven days per week during daylight hours. No scaffolding, ladders or climbing on the monuments is allowed without prior written approval or direct supervision of the National Park Service, George Washinf=gton Memorial personnel. Violators may be prosecuted. A Pre-Proposal meeting and official inspection period shall be held at the monuments on April 24, 2001 from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM, to provide greater access, answer questions, and address comments. Please inform the Contracting Officer of your intent whether or not you plan to attend the pre-proposal inspection. All work will be performed under a single contract; be issued and administered by the Contract Officer at George Washington Parkway.
