- Description
- Bechtel BWXT Idaho Inc., LLC (BBWI), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805 SUBJECT -- "Nondestructive Examination Using Neutron Activated Positron Annihilation", U. S. Patent Number 6,178,218 B1 NOTICE TYPE: Solicitation NOTICE DATED: April 1, 2001 This is a potential technology development and licensing opportunity with BBWI, the prime operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). BBWI is soliciting written expressions of interest from industry partners to fund collaborative technology development and/or entering into license agreements for developing and commercializing this technology. License terms will include an up-front licensing fee and a running royalty based on a percentage of sales. This is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to BBWI or the Department of Energy nor is it a commitment to continue research or license this technology. This solicitation will close to response 30 days after publication. Interested parties should send a description of their company and their ability to commercialize this technology to the following POC: Gary W. Smith, Sr. Account Executive, Technology Transfer and Commercialization, Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC, P. O. Box 1625, 2525 North Fremont Ave., Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. E:mail should be addressed to smitgw@inel.gov. A description of the technology follows. ABSTRACT: BBWI has patented the following technology: "Nondestructive Examination Using Neutron Activated Positron Annihilation", U. S. Patent Number 6,178,218 B1, and is seeking industry support for further development. Positron spectroscopy quantitatively assesses fatigue and brittle fracture allowing fatigue forecasts to be made. OPPORTUNITY SUMMARY: INEEL is seeking financial support to continue a multi-year research and development program for technology improvements and commercialization. Goals of the research include process enhancements, size reduction, field deployable accelerator systems and broadening of its current scope of use to include additional materials. This technology provides an alternative method of performing material fatigue and failure analysis. Utilizing this technology will permit forecasting of a component's failure point, thus extending the component's useful life. Following successful completion of this R&D program, industry partners would be given an opportunity to enter into license agreements to commercialize this evolving technology.
