- Description
- This is a Request for Information to determine the commercial availability or the current status of development of sensors or monitoring systems for quantifying the amount of tritium in groundwater. Traditional means for monitoring groundwater plumes involves acquiring samples from permanent monitoring wells followed by laboratory analysis of the samples. This monitoring method is labor intensive, time consuming, and very expensive for the long-term. Consequently, long-term monitoring needs require enhanced and/or new monitoring techniques that provide accurate, efficient, and relatively inexpensive groundwater analysis. The DOE is interested in information on innovative sensors and/or systems for monitoring the concentration of tritium in groundwater. The goal of the project is to identify and employ sensors that can effectively replace the current monitoring method of manual sampling and laboratory analysis. Responses to this notice will be used to identify candidates for future testing and possible field deployment of the proposed tritium sensor(s). Prospective vendors should respond by April 20, 2001. Responses to this announcement should include a complete description of the proposed testing system(s) including: specifications, sample preparation requirements, sample analysis time, precision, accuracy, power requirements, calibration procedures, reliability, maintenance requirements, the ability of the system to quantify multiple contaminants, claimed or estimated detection limits associated with each contaminant, a description of previous tests performed using the proposed sensor(s), list of representative projects and clients with emphasis on any clients utilizing the equipment for tritium detection, descriptions of future development plans for tritium detection and quantification, and the availability of a testing facility that could be utilized for future testing involving tritium.
