Description

The Defense Threat Reduction Agency has a requirement to provide "first principle" computer codes to predict the environments in, response of and damage to high-value fixed targets attacked by conventional weapon systems. These predictions will be used to enhance data gained from physical tests by providing a computational basis for test design, gauge placement, instrumentation selection and prediction of test results. Post-test calculations will also be performed to analyze unexpected test phenomena observed in the course of the actual tests. This effort will also include generation of "virtual" test data to develop and validate multi-dimensional test objects to be incorporated into fast-running codes like the Integrated Munitions Effects Assessment (IMEA) tool and Advanced Planning Environment (APE) and continued development of these structural codes to enhance their ability to predict post-failure behavior of structures and equipment subjected to conventional weapons attack.
