Description
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is seeking sources that can provide an intelligent, mainframe-based trace collection and analysis tool to support the troubleshooting and problem determination activities of SSA_s complex, multi-protocol network (SSANET). Recently, SSA has implemented APPN/HPR on its mainframe with TCP/IP on the OS/390 platform soon to follow. In addition, SSANET is being revamped to upgrade its physical infrastructure from a bridged environment utilizing front-ends and dedicated high-speed lines for connectivity to a routed network running ATM and Frame Relay services across it wide-area network. The trace tool must be versatile and comprehensive while at the same time easy to use by technicians with various levels of skill and experience. The specific requirements include: (1)Trace data capture of IO, Buffer, and Line trace data without running GTF (IBM_s Generalized Trace Facility); (2) Accessibility to 3270 users; (3)Menu-supported trace definition; (4) Concurrent tracing support; (5)Real-time capture and full-data capture in order to properly analyze complex structured fields in the data stream; (6) Online facility to filter captured data for easy analysis; (7) Formatted data flows and provide a full translation of captured trace data including explanations of VTAM messages, sense codes, SNA command and 3270 command information; (8) Support for LU6.2, APPN, IP, and Frame Relay Line traces; (9) Interfaces to TOP-SECRET for security access control. Any responsible organization able to provide such technology is invited to submit complete details concerning its capabilities, experience, and other pertinent data (including GSA contract information). Respondents must clearly indicate the capability of the product to meet the requirements stated above (any literature or information submitted as a response to this notice must contain enough information to attest to the capability of a product offered to meet the stated requirements). Only written responses will be accepted. Two (2) full written copies are requested, along with an electronic copy (such as through e-mail transmittal) if possible. Responses are due by April 13, 2001. The Government does not intend to pay for any information provided. This is a request for information only -- THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP). Requests for a solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. No contract award will be made on the basis of responses received. However, this information will be used in SSA_s assessment of capable sources. Respondents should refer to SSA-SSS-01-JCE-EXI. Respondents will NOT be notified of the results of the evaluation of the information received.
