Description
BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., is seeking collaborators for development projects in Virtual Training Technology. BWXT Y-12 manages and operates the Y-12 National Security Complex under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration. Specifically, Y-12 is seeking collaborators in developing and implementing method(s) for using simulators and advisors as training tools to assist process operators in setting up operations requiring high skill levels. As part of the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex, Y-12 has numerous highly skilled technical personnel (subject matter experts) with experience in applications-based training, available patented technology, and the experience of having worked with virtual training over the past ten years. Currently, particular areas of interest are: (1) simulation; (2) technologies for modular, adaptive, and dynamic training; (3) an immersive virtual training environment; and (4) frameworks into which individual training modules for specific processes, equipment, and facilities can be inserted. In one page or less, expressions should define the responder's areas of interest specific project focus will be jointly defined, and projects will be built from the ground up to provide all partners with meaningful and profitable roles. The roles and contributions of partners in the resulting collaboration might include technical expertise, in-kind software or equipment, long-term support for developed systems, funding, and/or the commercialization of developed systems. Partners may collocate at Y-12 or at other sites when such collocation would benefit technology transfer, prototype testing, or other phases of a project. While it is likely that successful collaborators would be for-profit businesses, successful collaborations may also include state, federal, or local governments or universities. Mechanisms for collaborations may include licensing, work for others, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements. BWXT Y-12 seeks to collaborate with governmental organizations, academic institutions, and for-profit businesses on technologies of mutual interest and benefit. To ensure consideration, interested parties must respond in writing to BWXT Y-12 within 30 days from the date this announcement is posted on-line and provide the following information: (1) the name and address of your organization; (2) the organization's Virtual Training technology interests as they relate to those of BWXT Y-12; (3) a description of your organization's expertise and facilities in the area of Virtual Training; (4) the name, address, telephone number, and fax number of a point of contact for your organization; and (5) a business, product, and financial summary of the organization. Expressions of interest should be sent to Terry L. Futrell, BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., P.O. Box 2009, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-8091; telephone 865-241-5111; fax number 865-574-2000; e-mail FUTRELLTL@Y-12.DOE.GOV.!!
