- Description
- BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., is seeking collaborators for development projects in Advanced Metrology. BWXT Y-12 manages and operates the Y-12 National Security Complex under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration. Specifically, Y-12 is seeking expressions of interest from potential collaborators in the further development of advanced methods for rapid precision dimensional characterization of mechanical components and in other related Advanced Metrology technologies. As part of the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex, Y-12 has significant experience in the metrology field and is the home of the internationally recognized Oak Ridge Metrology Center. Y-12 is seeking collaborators for developing higher density measurements and for predicting and controlling measurement uncertainties. The following are technology areas of great interest: (1) on-machine metrology for milling and machining operations with an increased focus on process control; (2) development of high-precision, high-density, noncontact dimensional metrology capabilities; and (3) models for predicting measurement uncertainties, particularly as applied to scanning CMMs. Partners may collocate at Y-12 during the collaboration to facilitate technology transfer. Projects will be jointly defined to provide all partners with a meaningful and profitable role. All partners are required to make meaningful technical contributions to research and development activities, and potential for commercialization of newly developed technologies will be a major factor in selection of industry partners. While it is likely that successful collaborators would be for-profit businesses, successful collaborations may also include state, federal, or local governmental agencies and universities. Mechanisms for collaborations may include licensing, work for others, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs). BWXT Y-12 seeks to collaborate with governmental organizations, academic institutions, and for-profit businesses on technologies of mutual interest and benefit. To ensure consideration, interested parties must respond in writing to BWXT Y-12 within 30 days from the date this announcement is posted on-line and provide the following information: (1) the name and address of your organization; (2) the organization's Advanced Metrology technology interests as they relate to those of BWXT Y-12; (3) a description of your organization's expertise and facilities in the area of advanced metrology; (4) the name, address, telephone number, and fax number of a point of contact for your organization; and (5) a business, product, and financial summary of the organization. Expressions of interest should be sent to: Terry L. Futrell, BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., P. O. Box 2009, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-8091; telephone: (865)241-5111; fax: (865)574-2000; e-mail: FUTRELLTL@Y12.DOE.GOV. !!
