- Description
- BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., is seeking collaborators for development projects in Advanced Casting/Melting/Heating technology. BWXT Y-12 manages and operates the Y-12 National Security Complex under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration. Specifically, Y-12 is seeking collaborators in the development and commercialization of methods for casting hazardous heavy metals. As part of the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex, Y-12 has extensive experience in the casting of metals and is seeking to improve worker health and safety, minimize potential environmental impacts, improve process efficiency, reduce trace impurities, and reduce the cost and time associated with casting/melting/heating hazardous heavy metals. Specific areas of interest include alloy processing, blending for assay, forming techniques for ceramics, development of improved crucibles, and development of science-based process models. Candidate technologies of interest include application of microwaves, infrared heating for pressing operations, centrifugal rheocasting, net shape forming, and superplastic forming. Additional areas of interest include zone refinement, magneto-hydrodynamics, laser stereolithography, spray casting, contained operations, and compact process technologies. In one page or less, expressions of interest should define the responder's areas of interest specific project focus will be determined through further discussion. Partners may collocate at Y-12 to facilitate technology transfer. Projects would be built from the ground up to provide all partners with a meaningful and profitable role. The role of partners in the resulting partnership might include shared equipment, prototype creation, modeling support, and theoretical support. While it is likely that successful collaborators would be for-profit businesses, successful collaborations may also include state, federal, or local governments, or universities. Mechanisms for collaborations may include licensing, work for others, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements. BWXT Y-12 seeks to collaborate with governmental organizations, academic institutions, and for-profit businesses on technologies of mutual interest and benefit. To ensure consideration, interested parties must respond in writing to BWXT Y-12 within 30 days from the date this announcement is posted on-line and provide the following information: (1) the name and address of your organization; (2) the organization's Advanced Casting/Melting/Heating technology interests as they relate to those of BWXT Y-12; (3) a description of your organization's expertise and facilities in the area of Advanced Casting/Melting/Heating; (4) the name, address, telephone number, and fax number of a point of contact for your organization; and (5) a business, product, and financial summary of the organization. Expressions of interest should be sent to: Terry L. Futrell; BWXT Y-12, L.L.C.; P.O. Box 2009; Oak Ridge, TN 37831-8091; telephone: 865-241-5111; fax: (865) 574-2000, e-mail: FUTRELLTL@Y12.DOE.GOV!!
