Description
BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., is seeking collaborators for development projects in Sensor Systems technology. BWXT Y-12 manages and operates the Y-12 National Security Complex under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration. Specifically, Y-12 is seeking expressions of interest from potential collaborators for developing or enhancing process monitoring and control technology, real-time sensor technology for process inventory and automated inventory tracking, and secure wireless shop floor data transfer. Y-12 is especially interested in technologies for producing sensors that are radiation hardened and chemical/corrosion-resistant and can effect monitoring for chemicals and other airborne substances, radiation, parts production processes, and predictive maintenance. Encryption of wireless sensor data and using sensors for wireless meter monitoring are additional areas of interest. As part of the DOE Nuclear Weapons Complex, Y-12 has significant experience with integrated sensor systems in addition to having a strong technical staff and knowledge base. Also, the Y-12 site is home to a number of existing structures that can be used for testing and evaluating prototypes after development. A significant portion of Y-12's business involves the protection of information, and long-standing experience in that area ensures the protection of proprietary or sensitive data belonging to any potential partner. Partners may collocate at Y-12 during the collaboration to facilitate both testing/evaluation and technology transfer. Projects will be jointly defined to provide all partners with a meaningful and profitable role. All partners are required to make significant technical contributions to research and development activities, and the potential for commercialization of newly developed technologies will be a major factor in selection of industry partners. While it is likely that successful collaborators would be for-profit businesses, these collaborations may also include state, federal, or local governmental agencies and universities. Mechanisms for collaborations may include licensing, work for others, or Cooperative Research and Development Agreements. BWXT Y-12 seeks to collaborate with governmental organizations, academic institutions, and for-profit businesses on technologies of mutual interest and benefit. To ensure consideration, interested parties must respond in writing to BWXT Y-12 within 30 days from the day this announcement is posted on-line and provide the following information: (1) the name and address of your organization; (2) the organization's Sensor Systems technology interests as they relate to those of BWXT Y-12; (3) a description of your organization's expertise and facilities in the area of Sensor Systems technology; (4) the name, address, telephone number, and fax number of a point of contact for your organization; and (5) a business, product, and financial summary of the organization. Expressions of interest should be sent to: Terry L. Futrell, BWXT Y-12, L.L.C., P. O. Box 2009, Oak Ridge, TN 37831-8091; telephone 865-241-5111; fax 865-574-2000; e-mail FUTRELLTL@Y12.DOE.GOV. !!
