The U.S. Geological Survey, Geologic Hazards Team, in a continuing cooperative effort with the State of Alaska, has a requirement for compilation of maps and a database of Quatenary faults and folds in Alaska for use in upcoming seismic-hazard analyses and probabilistic seismic-hazard maps. Specific tasks to be done include: 1) Convert existing Access database files to Microsoft Word file format; 2) Complete text-based descriptions, syntheses, and data entry for Quaternary faults and folds in the study area using established format; 3) On 1:250,000 scale topographic base maps, compile traces for described Quaternary faults and folds in the study area, and apply GIS attributes to these traces using information in fault database; 4) Submit test files and compiled maps as USGS Open File Report. Prospective offeror must: 1) Have extensive knowledge of the Quaternary geology of Alaska, tectonic geomorphology, structural geology, and paleoseismology; 2) Have established association with earth scientists in government, academic, and consulting communities of Alaska; 3) Possess expansive volumes of technical data to include, published and unpublished geologic maps, regional to local scale specialized engineering studies, and regional to local scale fault studies of the specified area. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), implemented by FAR 5.302-1, the Government considers the services specified as a sole source from the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, 790 University Avenue, Fairbanks, Alaska, and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required services are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement, and such other materials which correspond to the required services stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. See Note 22.
