- Description
- The Cancer Prevention Studies Branch (CPSB) of the Division of Clinical Sciences (DCS), National Cancer Institute (NCI) intends to negotiate with the Harvard University School of Public Health (HSPH), Department of Nutrition for a three-year contract to: (1) to enter and process the data from the maternal questionnaire of the Maternal Cohort Study of the Nurses' Health Studies (NHS); (2) to store the maternal questionnaires associated with the Maternal Cohort Study; (3) to link the maternal reported data to the ongoing prospectively collected endpoint data of and the nurses' reported risk factor data to the NHS and NHS II. The Nurses' Health Study (NHS) and the Nurses' Health Study II (NHS II) are ongoing prospective cohort studies including approximately 100,000 nurses, who were free of chronic disease, who reported information about risk factors for cancer, and who have mothers capable of reporting early life exposures of their nurse daughters. The NHS and NHS II were initiated in 1976 and 1989, respectively, with biannual follow-ups of each cohort at a response rate of over 95% for each. Maternal reported data were recently collected and therefore this contract will take advantage of the already existing data collections and link to future follow-ups for ascertainment of incident cancers, which are being funded in an existing NCI grant. The analytic file created from these sources will evaluate the role of early life exposures and conditions to risk of adult-onset cancer, with adjustment for the major recognized risk factors for the specific disease. The proposed contract action is for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under authority of FAR 6.302. Numbered Note 22 applies. No collect calls will be accepted.
