- Description
- SOURCES SOUGHT FOR 57MM GUN SYSTEM -- The Coast Guard is conducting a market survey to identify a source for a 57mm gun system to meet our requirements, and upon which the Coast Guard might conduct a performance and operational evaluation. The goal of the performance and operational evaluation will be to qualify the candidate 57mm gun system for approval for Coast Guard use and procurement. The 57mm gun system must have a integrated fire control computer that can be connected with ship sensors. It must have a gyro reference system that allows the fire control computer to compensate for errors between the gun and the tracking sensor, and it must have a muzzle velocity radar that supplies information to the fire control computer. The gun must have a fully automatic ammunition reloading hoist and through hull access between the gun and the ship to allow maintenance personnel to enter the gun directly from the interior of the ship. The gun must also have above deck access capability sufficient to conduct minor and major maintenance and overhaul work. The gun must be capable of firing several varieties of 57mm ammunition, including gated proximity, time function, impact function Armor piercing and conventional proximity function .facility. The intent of this announcement is to identify sources for the procurement of test articles. If testing satisfies the Coast Guard's needs, follow-on procurement may be authorized. U.S. and foreign firms interested in being considered should submit, in writing a description of their product that fulfills the Coast Guard requirement, along with price and availability information. This announcement is a request for information only and is not a request for proposal (RFP) or announcement for solicitation. Activities that fail to respond will not be placed on bidders list for a solicitation of test articles and the product will not be evaluated for approval for Coast Guard use and procurement. No telephone inquires will be accepted. The government will not pay for any material provided in response to this synopsis nor return the data provided. Responses are required no later then 27 April 2001. Responses should be addressed to Commandant (G-OCU) 2100 Second Street, S.W., Washington D.C. 20593-0001.
