Description
The Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWCCD)-Ship Systems Engineering Station (SSES) is in the process of standardizing general cleaning materials used aboard U.S. Navy Ships. The ultimate goal of this effort is to reduce personal protective equipment requirements. In order to include safety and health and environmental considerations into current Technical Purchase Descriptions (TPD), NSWCCD-SSES seeks participation from private industry to determine what is presently commercially available. Based on responses, TPDs will be revised so that only those products which meet these added safety and health and environmental considerations can qualify. This publication addresses general-purpose ready-to-use, spray-on, wipe-off, hard surface cleaners. NSWCCD-SSES has chosen to base the specification revision on a Technical Purchase Description (TPD) presently used by the Government Services Administration, and interested vendors will need to mail specific technical information on their products that currently meet the performance requirements of the TPD to NSWCCD-SSES and the Navy Environmental Health Center (NEHC). The list of technical information requirements and the complete TPD for this category of cleaner is available at http://www.SHMLReduction.com. Instructions on providing feedback for both safety and health and environmental requirements are also addressed on the web site. If the product is provided in a concentrated form, please provide responses to the technical information requirements on the web site for both the concentrate and the use solution. NSWCCD-SSES will issue future announcements to solicit product information from industry on the other cleaning material categories specified by the first CBD announcement published on 26 June 2000. It is not the purpose of this effort to solicit information from industry on dispensing systems or delivery systems for their products, as that will be addressed at a later date. Please contact Bruce Lundy of the NSWCCD-SSES via e-mail at Lundy@SHMLReduction.com. If specific questions arise, call (904)722-2520.
