Description

This market survey is being conducted to identify firms interested in providing real-time day and night airborne weather surveillance for the 45th Space Wing during scheduled space launch operations. The proposed contract would be a recompetition of the current Airborne Weather Reconnaissance contract. The contract will provide real-time observation and reporting of weather phenomena and parameters in the airspace at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and the vicinity as directed and communicated by the Launch Weather Officer. The types of information required include, but are not limited to, cloud height, thickness, and location, temperature, wind speed and direction, turbulence, type and intensity of precipitation, and lightning observations. The contractor must be able to provide direct observation (including aircraft weather radar interrogation) of the area of interest up to an altitude of 45,000 feet during icing, moderate turbulence, and Instrument Flight Rule conditions at any hour of the day or night for a minimum of three hours at time. Launch operations may be delayed by weather and/or other factors, causing a single operation to require multiple attempts. See Numbered Notes 1 and 26.
