- Description
- The Volpe Center plans to procure through Simplified Acquisition Procedures FAR Part 13,a sole source from Thompson Consulting, Watertown, MA, to provide technology assessment and evaluation in support of the Federal Transit Administration, Urban Magnetic Levitation Transit Technology Development Program. The contractor will be required to evaluate permanent magnet and AC superconducting electrodynamic suspension (EDS) systems that are capable of levitating at zero speed. The work will include analysis of alternative magnet configurations including the determination of magnetic damping and control configurations. The work will also include evaluation of electrodynamic braking systems. The contractor must have an FEA program, and have access to a test wheel capable of 100 mph, which coul d produce EDS force and magnetic damping test data. The contractor must possess experience and a thorough understanding of analytical techniques applicable to permanent magnet, and AC superconducting electrodynamic suspension, braking, and control systems. Small Business firms classified under NAICS Code 54169 that are interested in proposing on this requirement, must respond in writing no later than 15 days from the date of this publication that they can meet the following criteria: 1. Experienced in design and analysis of permanent magnet suspension systems for transportation; 2. Experienced in design and analysis of AC superconducting suspension systems including the suspension control system; 3. Availability of a test wheel with multiple-loop guideway configuration capable of producin g EDS force, drag, and damping test data; and 4. Past performance in zero speed AC superconducting EDS design and testing. Small Business firms will be required to submit one page of documentation for each criterion listed above prior to receiving a Request for Quote (RFQ). This proposed action is for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority 6.302. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice received will normally be considered, solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. RFQ issuance will be on or about 15 Mach 2001. No telephone requests will be accepted only written requests for this solicitation will be accepted however, requests via facsimile will be accepted at 617-494-3649, Attn: Katherine B. Chao DTS-852.
