- USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Mason Sands Torch Lake EPA Superfund Site project located in Houghton County, Michigan consisting of the placement of 6 inch layer of earthen cover over approximately 232 acres of stamp sand. Major items of construction are as follows: Structure Removal, Onsite Disposal (Lump Sum); Structure Removal, Offsite Disposal (Lump Sum); Pollution Control (Lump Sum); Seeding and Mulching (232 Acres) Note: No grass seeding may be performed between the dates of September 10 and October 20, 2001; Mobilization and Demobilization (Lump Sum); Access Road, Type 1 (6,095 L.F.); Access Road, Type 2 (9,216 L.F.); Access Road, Type 3 (2,838 L.F.); Access Road, Type 4 (6,051 L.F.); Diversions and Waterways (5,156 L.F.); 10'x4'Box Culvert (96 L.F.); 18" Culvert (350 L.F.); 24" Culvert (485 L.F.); Bank Stabilization (1,783 S.Y.); Shoreline Protection (7,363 L.F.); Lined Channel (282 C.Y.); Outlet Protection (96 S.Y.); Chain Link Fence 6 Feet (8,715 L.F.); Double Swing Gates 6 Feet (4 Each); Cover Material (232 Acres) and 1 Field Office (Lump Sum). Estimated Cost is between $1,000,000. and $5,000,000. Bid packages will be available on or about March 28, 2001 at a cost of $25.00 each with a check made payable to USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service. Contact Albert L. Site showing will be held on April 12, 2001 at 1:00 PM(EDT) at the UPPCO Building, 600 East Lakeshore Drive, Houghton, MI 49931. The bid opening will be at the same location on May 3, 200l at 1:00 PM(EDT). Notice to proceed is expected to be issued on or about May 18, 2001 with construction to begin May 29, 2001. Performance time is 162 days. Liquidated damages will be accessed at $750.00 per day. A bid guarantee of 20% of the bid amount must accompany your bid proposal. PLEASE NOTE: Contractor will be required to follow the USDA, NRCS Safety Plan and all site workers including subcontractors will require the 24-hour Hazwoper Training prior to any construction activity. No materials from the jobsite, including cleared and grubbed material, shall be burned on or offsite. This is a requirement of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
