Description
The project Base Bid consists of placing approximately 2,000,000 cubic yards of beach fill on the oceanfront resort beach at Virginia Beach, Virginia. The contract will include an Optional Bid Item to provide up to another 1,000,000 cubic yards of beach fill. The location of the work is situated between Rudee Inlet and 89th Street at Fort Story. The beach fill quantity requirements will vary from 30 cubic yards per linear foot to 130 cubic yards per linear foot over the project length of approximately 6.2 miles. The beach fill material shall be dredged from Government furnished borrow sites located in Thimble Shoal Channel and the Atlantic Ocean Channel with a maximum allowable dredging depth of 60 feet MLLW (NOS). The beach berm shall be constructed to a finished height of 10 feet NGVD with a foreshore graded slope of 1 vertical on 20 horizontal. The grading for the finished beach shall be at a tolerance not greater than 0.5 foot above or below the specified height and grade. Marine turtles, piping plovers, least terns, and other native species that might be encountered in the scheduled work area are protected by federal law or are species of special concern for Commonwealth of Virginia agencies. All work to be performed on this contract shall be planned and accomplished in a manner to not disturb the nesting or foraging activities of these birds, marine life and wildlife in any way. The scheduled work operations will be occurring during the Virginia Beach peak tourist season that begins Memorial Day and ends Labor Day. The Contractor shall be required to maintain the beach and ocean work areas in a manner to ensure the safe access and egress of the public for the duration of the contract. Magnitude of construction is estimated to be over $10,000,000.00. Duration of the project is 180 calendar days. THIS IS AN UNRESTRICTED PROCUREMENT.
