Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with Dr. Svetlana Kotochigova, Rockville, Maryland, for technical assistance services on Potential Energy Curves for Group II Dimers. This work includes: (1) analysis of potential energy curves and interactions in dimer molecules of the group II species Mg, Ca, Ba and Yb, and (2) compilation of available data from the literature and use of relativistic molecular structure computer codes to perform calculations and analysis. The work shall be performed at the NIST Gaithersburg, Maryland site. Deliverables shall be written reports. The period of performance is 10 months from date of award. There is also an option for an additional 10 month period. This is a sole source with Dr. Kotochigova because she has the specific theoretical skills necessary for the completion of this project. This work is a continuation of a project where she has already performed similar calculations in other atomic systems and this expertise will be essential for the timely completion of this work. Dr. Kotochigova is uniquely qualified to perform these tasks in the limited time available because she has the computer codes and the knowledge to use them to carry out the needed relativistic molecular structure calculations and she has a working knowledge of the issues that are relevant to the application of these calculations to the physics of cold trapped atoms. A written quote will be received from Dr. Kotochigava. A firm fixed priced purchase order shall be made approximately March 6, 2001 using simplified acquisition procedures. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competition. However, the Government will consider all responses received before the response date above. A solicitation document is not available. See Note 26.
