Description
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has contracted for various services with Raytheon Technical Services Company, Polar Services (RPSC) via NSF Contract No. OPP-0000373. These services include construction of a waste water treatment plant at McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The purpose of this synopsis is to identify potential opportunities to subcontractors to supply materials and equipment to RPSC for use in the aforementioned project. Applicable classification codes are as follows: 30, 43, 45, 46, 47, 48, 54, 55, 56, 58, 59, 61, 62, and 63. Logistics involved in construction at McMurdo Station are extensive and complex. Material and equipment will be purchased one year in advance of construction and shipped from Port Hueneme, California, (one hour north of Los Angeles) via container ship to McMurdo Station. The vessel will depart from Port Hueneme on or about January 2, 2002. This will require all material and equipment to be delivered to Port Hueneme by about November 15, 2001. Material tracking and control systems are critical to maintaining the tight construction window, and necessitate detailed coordination, packaging, and identification requirements from all subcontractors and vendors. The package plant will be of the conventional extended aeration type, with a design flow of 0.131 MGD during the summer season and 0.051 MGD during the winter season. The principle structure of the package plant will consist of three channels. Each channel will consist of an anoxic zone, an aeration zone, and a secondary clarifier, each separated by common walls with perforated openings. The entire package plant will be enclosed in a 140 foot by 75 foot pre-engineered building. The package plant will consist of, but not be limited to, the following equipment: tankage, air distribution system -- aeration equipment, secondary clarifiers, return sludge/waste sludge/scum removal system, recycled MLSS pumps, air supply system, mechanical mixers, influent splitter box, tank covers, internal piping, access bridge walkway, coatings and corrosion control, spare parts, electrical -local control, and all appurtenances necessary to make the facility complete and fully operable. Competitive acquisitions of the following plant systems are anticipated: ARCHITECTURAL -- Pre-Engineered Building, Metal Fabrications, Stairs, & Ladders, Handrails/Guardrails, Fiberglass Stairs & Grating, Fireproofing, Firestops, Sealants, Interior Doors, Interior Door Hardware, Suspended Acoustic Ceiling, Paints & Coatings, Fire Extinguishers, Cabinets, Toilet Accessories, Furnishings, Interior Composite Metal Panels, Aluminum Storefront w/Glazing, Overhead Coiling Doors, and Resinous Flooring; STRUCTURAL -- Concrete Footings, Concrete Slabs, and Structural Steel; PROCESS -- Self-priming Centrifugal pumps, Macerator, Belt Filter Press, Package Plant/Aerobic Digesters/UV system, Trapezoidal Flume, Process Pipe, Valves & Supports, and Spare Parts; MECHANICAL/HVAC -- Flexible Water-Tube Boiler, Air Handling Unit, Heat Exchanger, Unit Heaters, Centrifugal Fans, Insulation, HVAC Piping and Valves, Ductwork & Accessories, Conveying Equipment, and Temperature Controls/Testing; PLUMBING -- Plumb Pipe, Valves, & Fittings, Plumb Fixtures, Specialties, and Equipment; INSTRUMENTATION -- Controls, Computer Systems, Software, and Control Equipment; ELECTRICAL -- Wiring, Conduit & Associated Items, Motor Control Centers and Associated Items, Panels & Associated Items, Lighting, 300 KVA Transformer, and Switchbox; and FIRE PROTECTION -- Fire Detection and Fire Suppression.
