Description

THIS REQUIREMENT IS A 100% SMALL BUSINESS SETASIDE. The Building Fire Research Laboratory (BFRL) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires on-site services in support of programs for (a) NIST-Kinetic Data Base Development for Soot Formation (b) NIST-NGP program for fire suppression technology and (c) NIST-NASA program on variable gravity. The contractor will perform tasks that support experimental programs at NIST in terms of database development and the modeling of soot formation during the combustion of organic fuels with particular emphasis on heptane as the fuel, in the search of new and effective fire suppressants as substitutes for Halon 1301 and in defining the effect on flame inhibition in diffusion flames as a result of variable gravity. The contractor shall perform tasks consisting of (a) data collection; (b) kinetic data base development; and (c) kinetic modeling. The Period of Performance is for a one year period from date of award and with two optional one year periods. The minimum qualifications of personnel to perform this work include, but are not limited to: a PhD in Physical Science or engineering, at least six years post doctoral experience conducting research in combustion chemistry, and knowledge of state of the art kinetic mechanisms underlying combustion and flame inhibition.
