Description
Obsolescence is a continuing problem on the M1A2 Abrams System Enhancement Package (SEP) tank. Technology advancements and low production rates add to the problem. The Continuous Electronic Enhancement Program (CEEP)is Abrams' long term, proactive, strategy to reduce obsolescence through redesigned LRUs and SRUs that have availability issues which impact the readiness and sustainability of the M1A2 Abrams SEP tank. Implementation of this strategy will be done through the award of a five year, sole source contract with General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS) as the prime contractor for the supply of redesigned components. GDLS, through the use of small business subcontracts and other interested offerors, will design, procure, integrate, and qualify various M1A2 Abrams SEP components incorporating the latest technology advancements. As part of the contract, in order to assure availability of parts, a new design for each of the various components will be qualified before each of the components five year inventory is completely expended. The projected issuance date is 21 March 2001 with a projected closing date of 27 April 2001. SEE Note 22.
