Description

This notice constitutes amendment no. 1 to the synopsis for the purchase of an automated filament fusion splicing workstation (solicitation number 562-17125-929). Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to the subject synopsis; a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to modify the rationale for sole source selection as follows: Vytran Corporation, located at 1400 Campus Drive West, Morganville, NJ 07751, is the sole source of automated filament fusion splicing workstations capable of tapering telecon grade optical fiber as well as having the ability to fusion splice polarization-maintaining fiber. NASA/GSFC intends to purchase an automated filament fusion splicing workstation (Vytran model number: FFS 2000) with the following options: built-in proof tester/tension tester and pm rotation. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on January 24, 2001. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
