Description

The Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center intends to negotiate a sole source procurement with Lockheed Martin Astronautics for technical/engineering services.The objective of this task is to design a 1/8th scale prototype Flexible Tab Assisted Control (FlexTAC) System Program device. The FlexTAC concept is envisioned to provide improved submarine low-speed maneuvering and increased submerged operating envelope. The contractor shall design a complaint control surface based on structurally integrated shape memory actuators. This surface shall be capable of being interfaced to a mechanically articulated flap to produce the Tab Assisted Control (TAC) system. This design effort will ensure that the proposed 1/8th scale model will successfully be able to demonstrate the ability of the Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuated contoured control surface to meet the desired performance metrics during the 36 inch water tunnel testing. Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements under the authority of FAR 6.302.1. Anticipated award in on or about 1/29/01. See numbered Note 22.
