- Description
- Program Manager for Mobile Electric Power (PM-MEP) and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is sponsoring a ADVANCED PLANNING MEETING (Industry Day) for Advanced Mobile Medium-Sized Power Systems (AMMPS) on 31 January 2001 -- 1 February 20001. The workshop is being held at the National Transportation Research Center (NTRC) in Knoxville, Tennessee to share the results of the AMMPS Proof of Concept efforts with industry. The AMMPS family of power systems will be a standard family of lightweight, signature suppressed, mid-distillate grade fuel burning power systems that are electronically and digitally controlled. The lighter weight will significantly increase the mobility of generator sets during deployment. Application and integration of advanced materials, combustion enhancements, power electronics, and controls will increase system reliability and maintainability, decrease fuel consumption, and decrease emissions. Significant improvements in generator set performance through design improvements and better engine efficiencies will reduce fuel consumption. Resulting systems will modernize the military inventory of mobile tactical electric power systems, provide compatibility with 22st Century weapons, and lower Total Ownership Costs.
